Beware the Swinging Pendulum
Want to restore the American constitutional system? It's going to take work. Halting a pendulum before it completes its swing into full backlash can be tough.
The American system was designed to keep policy debates within reasonable reach of center. Today, we find ourselves in unprecedented, dangerous leftist territory with the system itself under fire.
Those of us who long for a restoration must focus on the task. We’ve got three challenges to overcome:
We must keep the system intact, bringing accountability to those who have undermined the rule of law, the credibility of our electoral system, and the sanctity of our inalienable rights. Anything less preserves noxious precedent capable of undermining the system.
We must defeat the Woke, who seek to dismantle everything that ever made America special and replace it with their own system, rooted in utopian socialism and a complete rejection of Biblical ethics (as I discuss in detail in American Spirit or Great Awokeing?).
We must arrest the emergence of of a countermovement, within our own camp, eager to move us as far from the American center as do the Woke—but in a vastly different direction.
I wrote about this challenge for RealClearPolitics yesterday.
